Preparing for Hurricane Season 2024
Time to Get Ready... Hurricane season begins on June 1 and lasts through November 30. Storms affecting North Carolina peak in early to mid-September.
Hurricanes can be life-threatening and can cause serious property-threatening hazards such as flooding, storm surge, high speed winds and tornadoes. Longterm power outages, evacuations, property destruction and debris are just some of the effects that can result from the onset of nature's fury. We cannot control the weather; but we can prepare and discuss plans for continued operations and mitigating damages.
It is important to prepare for hurricane season each year with the appropriate training as well as an Emergency Response Plan. Developing an emergency plan begins with an understanding of what can happen before, during and after a storm. A few helpful tips are outlined below:
- Conduct a risk assessment in advance
- Consider the current plan that is in place and any amendments/improvements that can be made
- Decide how much you want to invest in planning beyond what is required by regulations
